Creating a If then statement that references multiple workbooks

I have a table in workbook called "data" that looks like this

  Fruit   Brand
  Apple    A
  Orange   A
  Apple    B
  Grapes   A
  Bananas  A
  Bananas  B

and my desired output in a different workbook called "insert" after running the macro needs to looks like this

  Fruit   Brand A     Brand B
  Apple    True       True
  Orange   True       False
  Grapes   True       False
  Bananas  True       True

Basically, if a fruit is either Brand A or B, or both, it needs to be indicated through True or False in another workbook but in the same row without repeating the fruit names. I've tried using some if and then statements, but I'm always getting errors. Any suggestions? Thanks!
