PHP if else doesn't seem to work [duplicate]

This is the statement:

if ($postwf = $water_food) {echo "We're good";}
else{$water_food = $postwf;}

$postwf = "Water" and $water_food is empty when this is run. Nothing gets echo'ed and $water_food does not get to $postwf

Nevermind. I was looking at the wrong statement
