Conditional RegEx python? [closed]

I have the following regular expression

"[-+]?[0-9]*\.?[0-9]+([e][-+]?[0-9]+)?"

I would like to make it so that if a exponential is detected it must be followed by a number and optionally that the exponent is signed. Is anyone able to advise how I may be able to achieve this?
