In what circumstance(s) are If statements more appropriate than select case, and vice-versa in excel VBA? [closed]

More of a general question and not related to any specific code.

My current understanding tells me that the decision over deciding whether to use nested If statements or select case comes down to personal preference (and readability). However, I appreciate that there are subtle differences, and in the spirit of making any code I write more efficient, I would like to know those subtle differences and any general circumstance(s) in which one statement is more appropriate.
