I am confused about writing a multidimensional char array in c programming

I need to use H, I and "-" for 10x10 grid. I guess i need to use loops and if-else, but i am confused to make the code.

i couldn't continue for loops and if-else statements. If H and I are next to or above&belove each other, H will be I. "-" means it is empty. I hope you can help me.
