Java : if statement still executing when false? [duplicate]

I just started learning Java, and I ran into a problem. My if statements are till executing, even though they are false. I put n = 5, and then tested wether n was smaller than 3 (which it obviously isnt!), however it still printed the text. I tried to see if the value for n had changed, put it still prints n = 5. However when I substituted my n for 9, it didnt execute it. How can that be?
