Content controls that change a separate cell in a table

I am using content controls in Microsoft Word for a template for customers. I have no issue with the content controls at all, but based on the result from the content controls I want different responses. Currently the drop-down list I have created is in a table with a corresponding column of a green check, red x, or yellow dash. I would like to tie those symbols with the content controlled drop down list, but am unable to find a way to do so. I appreciate any advice!
