V lookup replacement or if statement in VBA

I have an excel file, in Column A contain Activity code ( break, lunch. meeting etc.. ). in column B contain the amount of time these activates took (00:15, 3:00, 00:30 etc.. ) HR:MINTs, how can I match the activity with a category, planned or not planned(shrinkage) and copy an add the total of time of each category.. I was thinking to use the If statement, but that got me no where
