Sql query for getting user parametar from database

I have column date_check and user in parametar form enters S to check is that column null or is not null. So i think its should go something like this but i need your help

select date_check 
from tableA
if :parametar='S' then give me date_check where date_check is not null

so here i dont know how to write correct syntax of the function
